i think the reason castiel didn’t apologize to sam is because he didn’t think he deserved even an ounce of sam’s forgiveness. not because he felt there wasn’t anything to apologize for.
I think that’s a cop-out. “I don’t deserve forgiveness so I’m not even going to try.” What about what the other person deserves? Which is to know how very, very sorry you are?
i’m not trying to justify castiel’s actions, and i definitely never said anything about castiel not even trying. i’m sure he wanted to apologize, but what good would it have done? castiel isn’t the type of person who settles for doing the least he can. and sam deserves waaaaay more than a simple ‘sorry’. castiel completely fucked him over. there’s no going back from that, and whether sam knows how sorry castiel is or not, it makes no difference because sam only ever worries about anyone but himself. he’s not going to cry about the fact that castiel didn’t say sorry, not when there is so much other shit going on in his life. an apology would have been nice, but it doesn’t change the fact that castiel is the one who broke down sam’s wall, even if sam forgives him for it.
basically what i’m trying to say is that it wouldn’t make a difference if castiel apologized or didn’t apologize, because what he did is so beyond apologizing for, there’s not really anything he can do to make up for it, and even if sam forgives him, castiel is going to have to live with the fact that he pretty much destroyed the sanity of one of his best friends, only to bring more evil into the world.
